Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei says the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli terrorist attack was an international crime.
In an interview with Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen on Sunday, Baqaei said that the Islamic Republic considers the assassination of its leader as a declaration of “war against Iran” and will defend its sovereignty and people with strength.
He warned that the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei could take on “religious dimensions” and spread tensions across the region.
“A major part of his (Ayatollah Khamenei’s) activities over the past 37 years had been dedicated to defending the Palestine cause, the Iranian nations and other nations in the region,” Baqaei said.
He reiterated that the Iranian armed forces will continue to target all military installations in the region used by the US and Israel to attack the country.
